Silver Pana of Kalachuris of Ratnapur
2020-12-25 Fri
Kalachuri of Ratanpura had ruled the central part of India from the 11th Century to the 12th Century. Today, it is situated in present-day Chhattisgarh from their capital at Ratnapura (modern Ratanpur in Bilaspur district). We can find several inscriptions and coins of Ratnapura, but this does not provide enough information to reconstruct the political history of the region with complete certainty.
This silver pana that weighs around 0.21g was issued by king Jagapala during his rule in Kalachuris of Ratnapura. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Stylized Goddess Lakshmi seated facing’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sri Jaga/ Pala’.
