2020-11-27 Fri

AIDS [Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome] is caused by a Human Immunodeficiency Virus [HIV]. Many theories provide information that HIV originated in Kinshasa, Congo around 1920. It is believed that HIV came from chimpanzee to humans. The pandemic of AIDS started in the mid to late 1970s. There can be a possibility that in the course of hunting, infected chimpanzee blood got entered into human wounds or cut.

There are a stigma, prejudice and shame attached with the disease and often patients are treated negatively, discriminated and abused. There are cases of death where patients refused to go to the hospital to receive medicines due to stigma and discrimination.

Therefore, a nation as a whole with the help of people and government can create awareness campaigning through laws, rules and policies.

In 2003, Brazil took the initiative of creating awareness about AIDS by issuing stamp.
