With a belief that ‘Every Child could be a productive citizen if given love, a home, an education, and a trade; a young parish priest named Father Edward Flanagan started a boarding school named ‘Boys Town’ with just $90 in the year 1917.
After World War II in the year 1945, the 33rd President of the United States of America Harry S. Truman, ask Father Flanagan to travel around the world to visit war orphans and advise the foreign government on how to take care of displaced children.
Boys of all races and religions were welcomed in this boarding house. Today it is one of the largest non-profit organizations in the country, dedicated to serving at-risk children and families of all backgrounds and religions.
