A rather strange situation has cropped up in U.K, where experts state that the new plastic notes have a tendency to stick together. They are in fact warning the general public and shopkeepers that there is a possibility of handing over two notes instead of one during day-to-day transactions. The statement has been mentioned on an official Bank of England Q&A sheet. The statement also clarifies that this problem would not persist after the notes become older.

Britain is going to add to the list of 30 other countries which are already using plastic currency notes. The new £5 plastic note featuring Winston Churchill will be released in September. The £10 plastic note featuring author Jane Austen will be released next year and a £20 note depicting artist JMW Turner will be issued by 2020.

As many as 2,40,000 counterfeit notes were found in circulation last year and the new notes have been issued to control criminal activities like these.

Though officials have stated that the new notes wouldn’t be destroyed if they hit the washing machine, they have warned that if you keep doing it in high temperatures, the notes will turn unusable.
