Canadian Holiday Stamp Honoring Maud Lewis

2020-11-10 Tue

Canada Post issued four-holiday stamp designs, invoking both Biblical and winter themes, on 2nd November. Canada Post’s secular stamp offerings feature three wintery scenes by Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis.

The single religious-themed permanent-rate Christmas stamp is inspired by traditional paintings of the Nativity with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, adding an ox and a donkey. A sleigh heading through a covered bridge in a snow-covered scene is featured on the permanent-rate stamp. The image is a duplication of Winter Sleigh Ride.

The design of the Dollars 2.71 stamp for letters to other international destinations shows a family bundled up on a horse-pulled sledge from Lewis’ Family and Sled.
