Quarter Dollar on Effigy Mounds National Monument

2020-10-30 Fri

The United States of America had issued this commemorative quarter dollar in the year 2017 with the theme of Effigy Mounds National Monument under America the Beautiful Quarters Program.

The Effigy Mounds was established in the year 1949; these national parks preserve many examples of many American Indian mounds. The majority of these mounds were constructed between one thousand and two thousand years ago. This park protects one of the largest remaining concentrations of ancient American Indian earthworks in the United States. This park also preserves more than 200 prehistoric mounds built by Native Americans.

The obverse of this quarter dollar depicts the portrait of the first president of the United States of America, George Washington, facing towards left. The reverse side of this coin depicts an aerial view of mounds in the Marching Bear Group. Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of Effigy Mounds National Monument.
