This new stamp issues follows on from the 50s, 60s and 70s to explore different aspects of 1980s culture namely language, music, fashion, food and drink.
1980s is considered as the bold and energetic decade of materialism and consumerism. It was decade of clash of fun fluorescents and pretty pastels. 1980s was a time for flamboyant fashion. Big should pads, chunky jewellery and neo legs warmers became wardrobe staples whiles a big perm was the most hairstyle.
In jersey, this decade is remembered as the islands post war tourism boom, jersey finanace sector continued to grow and the workforce migrated from farm work and tourism towards jobs within the finance industry.
