Special Coin to Honour Vijaya Raje Scindia

Born Lekha Divyeshwari Devi on 12 October 1919 and known popularly as the Rajmata of Gwalior, Vijaya Raje Scindia was a prominent Indian political personality.Vijaya Raje Scindia was a witness to India's key political events from independence struggle to decades after the country's independence. In the last 60 years, Rajmata Scindia was one of the key political figures. From burning of foreign clothes before the independence to Ram Mandir Andolan, she had been a key figure to inspire the future generation.
In the days of British Raj, she was a consort of the last ruling Maharaja of Gwalior, Jivajirao Scindia and has been ranked among the highest royal figures of the land. She was also an active member, for many decades, of the Jana Sangh and co-founder of Bharatiya Janata Party.
The special commemorative coin was minted by the Finance Ministry in commemoration of the 100th Birth Anniversary of Rajmata of Gwalior. The coin depicts the Lion Capital on the obverse along with the denomination and the name of the Issued Country. The reverse depicts the bust of Smt. Vijaya Raje Scindia, years 1919 – 2019 and the legend “Birth Centenary of Smt. Vijaya Raje Scindia.
