Independent Kingdom Mysore Gold Mohur Listed for INR 9,00,000

This gold mohur was issued by the Hyder Ali the sultan of the Independent Kingdom Mysore and the father of the famous ruler Tipu Sultan also known as Tiger of Mysore. This gold mohur is listed for INR 900000 in an upcoming auction of Oswal Antiques that will be held in Mumbai on 31st October 2020 at 4 PM.

Hyder Ali started his career as a soldier in an army of the Wodeyar dynasty. Later, due to his professional skills, he was raised to the designation of ‘Commander in Chief’ in an army of Krishnaraja Wodeyar II. In the year 1761, he was appointed at the position of Chief Minister. Haider Ali had fought very hard against military advances of the British East India Company in the first and second Anglo Mysore War.

Hyder Ali issued his gold mohur from the mint Bahadurpattan during the 20th year of this reign. Mint Bahadurpattan was later renamed as Seringapattan and was made the capital of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. ...The obverse side of this gold mohur is inscribed as ‘Sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya e fazle Allah, Hami din, Muhammad Shah Alam Badshah. The reverse side of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sanah 20 julus, Zarb Bahadurpattan, Persian letter “He” as initial of Hyder Ali.
