Silver Drachm of Kingdom of Macedonia King Alexander III

Macedonia or Macedon was an ancient kingdom of the Macedonian region of northern Greece. Macedonia is a historic place that spans the region; of Northern Greece and the Balkan Peninsula. This kingdom was the centre part of the Greek Peninsula bordered by Epirus to the west, Paeonia to the north, the region of Thrace to the east, and Thessaly to the south. The kingdom was Macedonia was founded during mid-7th Century BC during the period of Archaic Greece and lasting until the mid-2nd century BC.

This silver drachm that weighs around 4.17g was issued by Macedonia king Alexander III during his rule. The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of young Herakles to right wearing lion’s skin. The reverse of this coin depicts Zeus holding an eagle and sceptre, sitting to left on a throne, Greek legend behind.
