Poltava withdrawn stamp

The Soviet Union planned to issue this stamp around June to July 1959, this stamp face value is 40 Kopecks. This stamp was withdrawn before even issuing in the general circulation.

This stamp features a Swedish troop led by Prime Minister Karl Piper and field marshals, they put up flags before Peter I. This stamp was not issued due to the diplomatic relations between Sweden and USSR. In one the meeting between the leader of the respected country, a decision was taken to destroy this stamp, because the event this stamp may offend the Swedish people due to its focus on the unpleasant event of their defeat in the Battle of Poltava.

Some of this stamp survived this destruction process. Today the surviving specimen of this series valued at around 10,000 to 20,000 US dollars.
