Military Services Honoured by U.S. Mint Medals

U.S. Mint medals are struck using hand-cut medal dies which were used to mint the large Jefferson Indian Peace Medals that were issued around 1804. These original dies were preserved at Philadelphia Mint’s vault for over 200 years. Congressional Gold Medals duplicates recently honoured the U.S Military and its astounding services towards the nation. These higher relief medals come in 3-inch and 1.5-inch formats which can be purchased for $39.95.

The obverse of the American Fighter Aces medal features four pilots, from World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War; an ace of spades; and military wings with a globe in the centre.

The obverse of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders medal features the B–25B Mitchell launching off the USS Hornet (CV–8), 16 stars representing the 16 flight crews of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders.

The obverse of the Borinqueneers medal depicts a portrait of a fictional Borinqueneer where soldiers in the background are in an inverted “V” formation - a strategy that was used during the Korean War.

The reverse of the Borinqueneers medal depicts the 16th-century citadel Castillo de San Felipe del Morro of San Juan, Puerto Rico, the preferred military command ceremonial parade site of the 65th Infantry Regiment.
