Kosambi(Pali), known as Kaushambi (Sanskrit), was an important city during the ancient period in India. Today, Kaushambi is situated in the Indian States of Uttar Pradesh. During the ancient period, this city was the capital of Vatsa Mahajanapada, one of the 16th Mahajanapadas of India. Kaushambi continued to remain as one of the important cities of India from the Vedic period until the end of the Mauryan Empire, with occupation continuing until the Gupta Empire.
