Teacher's Day is an important holiday celebrated in almost every country. However, its date varies from country to country. For example, Teachers Day in Argentina is celebrated on September 11 to commemorate Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, the seventh president of Argentina. Sarmiento paid special attention to education for children and women. He increased educational subsidies, established 800 educational and military institutions. His reforms enabled 100,000 children to attend school.

Sarmiento died on September 11, 1888. His death anniversary was declared as Teachers' Day in the 1940s to honor his memory and work. In his honor, a 50 Pesos banknote was issued in the year 1993. The banknote depicts Portrait of General Domingo Faustino Sarmiento in the obverse and the Plaza de Mayo of Buenos Aires in the reverse.
