Lakshmi on Cameroon Coins

The Republic of Cameroon has issued coins of two denominations with the same design "Goddess Lakshmi" in the year 2016.Lakshmi, Shri ("good sign", "happiness", "beauty"), also known as the consort and embodiment of the creative energy of Vishnu. Sri Lakshmi is usually shown seated on a lotus, symbolizing motherhood and spiritual purity. The goddess herself is associated with wealth, a happy fate, and immortality.
Diplomatic relations between Cameroon and India were established in 1960, the year the former declared independence. Cameroonian leaders have expressed appreciation for India's contributions to Africa, its secular democracy and economic progress, and its leadership in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
The coins depicting Lakshmi has been issued in the denominations of 500 francs and 1000 francs. These pure Gold coins depict a lotus flower on the obverse. The lower part shows the coat of arms of the Republic of Cameroon. The reverse of gold coins depicts Goddess Lakshmi sitting on a lotus flower. Below is the year of issue of the coin "2016".
