The Star of Stack's Bowers Sale
2020-08-19 Wed
The recent Stack's Bowers Sale has led the way to the show stopper of all the auctions. A USD 5,000 Federal Reserve Note certified by Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) realized over a quarter-million dollars to lead the way at the August 2020 Stack's Bowers US Currency Auction on 5th August 2020.Ultra-high denomination notes such as this 1934 USD 5000 Federal Reserve Note are among the most desirable notes in all of American currency collecting. Fewer than 250 examples of the type are known for all series and districts. Industry-leading third-party grading service PMG has graded this note Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
It is one of just five 1934 $5000 Federal Reserve Notes they have graded at that level with none finer. Two of the five come from the Dallas Federal Reserve District with this note being one of those two. The other three examples come from the Richmond, St. Louis, and Kansas City districts.
The presently offered note is found with broad, even margins, and wonderfully original paper surfaces. Vibrant green overprint inks are sharply detailed on the face of the creamy white paper. This is easily among the very finest examples of a USD 5000 Federal Reserve Note available to collectors.
