In 2019 Cherrystone commenced an auction of ‘Rare stamp and Postal History of the World’. The sale offered 1668 lots and started with the philatelic material of the United States, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and Italy colonies, World war II occupation issues, Liechtenstein, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland and Scandinavian countries. The most fascinating and the highlight of this sale is the 1918 ‘Two dollar Pechino local handstamp type II o 5 lire. The auction house was offering this stamp for $ 45,000.

This type of stamp was a phenomenal rarity of the offices in Peking features this extremely rare type of surcharge with all capital letter ‘DOLLARI’ The most common type of Peking was made by adding a surcharge with ‘dollari’ in the lower case to an already overprinted stamp for Peking from the previous issues.

According to the auction house ‘A premier rarity from the Italian Colonies and the Italian Offices in Pechino, certainly one of the best, if not the finest of the only 15 issues, perfect in every aspect’.
