The Sassanian Empire was an ancient Dynasty; this dynasty is also called as Empire of Iranians. The name Sassanian derived from the Persian priest named Sasan, the ancestor of the dynasty. The Sassanian Empire is also known as Neo-Persian Empire, it was the last pre-Islamic Persian empire, established in 224 CE by Ardeshir I, son of Papak, a descendant of Sasan.This silver Drachm which weighs around 4.15g was issued by king Khusro II from the Sassanian Empire. The obverse of this coin depicts ‘Bust of the ruler to right wearing mural crown’.The reverse of this coin depicts ‘Fire altar flanked by two attendants, stars and crescent flanking flames.
