Assam was the Independent Kingdom during the medieval period in India. Today it situated in the northeastern part of India. Assam is a place well-known as the land of Brahmaputra, it is a place incomparable beauty but when it comes to its coinage, one could not stop marveling at this fine piece of art. During the medieval period, Assam was the Independent Hindu Kingdom, well known in in ancient literature as Kamrup.

The Coins issued by this kingdom had developed considerable interest in Indian numismatic. Coins issued by this kingdom are of distinct style and it is very much different from the coins issued by the other kingdoms in India.

This silver half rupee was issued by king Lakshmi Simha during his reign in Assam. The weight of this coin is around 5.5g. The obverse side of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sri Sri Ha/ri Hara Pada/ Parasya’. The reverse side of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sri Sri La/time Simha Na/ rendrasya’.
