26 years ago, in the year 1994, the United States did honor Vietnam’s veterans with a commemorative silver dollar. Designed by John Mercanti, this coin of 1994 Vietnam Veterans Memorial coin captured the poignancy of the memorial. The 1994 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Silver Dollar was issued under one of three similarly themed commemorative coin programs to mark the 10th anniversary of the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
The obverse design features a hand touching the Memorial Wall. The Washington Monument can be seen in the background of the scene. This was designed by John Mercanti. The inscription reads “Liberty”, the date “1994”, “In God We Trust”, and the caption “Vietnam Veterans Memorial”.
3 Vietnam service medals “Left: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Middle: Vietnam Service Medal and Right: Vietnam Campaign Medal” are in the center with the inscriptions that read “The United States of America”, “E Pluribus Unum”, and the denomination “One Dollar”.
