Jaunpur Sultanate was ruled by the Sharqi dynasty. Khwajah-i-Jahan Malik Sarwar, the first ruler of the dynasty, was a Wazir (minister) under Sultan Nasiruddin Muhammad Shah (1390–1394 AD). In 1394, he established himself as an independent ruler of Jaunpur. Husain Shah was the last Sultan of Jaunpur Sultanate, holding the position from 1458 to 1479 AD.
This gold tanka was issued by Shams al-Din Ibrahim Shah during this reign in Jaunpur Sultanate. The weight of this gold tanka is around 11.82g. The obverse of this gold tanka is inscribed as ‘Al-Wathiq Bi-ta yid Al-RahmanAbu‘l -Muzaffar Ibrahim Shah al-Sultan’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as Fi Zaman Al-Imam Nayab Amir al-Mumineen Abu al-Fatah KhulidatKhilafatahu’. This gold tanka was sold for INR 80,000 in an electronic auction of Todywalla which was held on 5th July 2020.
