Not All Stamp Collections Are Valuable
2020-04-06 Mon
Stamp Collecting Hobby is a soul-soothing hobby. However, one of the saddest things about this hobby is that sometimes a collector might not get expected returns. Despite pouring one’s heart in the collection process, a collector might find the collection is virtually worthless at the time of sale. How does this happen? Here are some pointers to determine what makes a stamp valuable or less-valuable
- Many classic stamps have similar designs. The difference may be a tiny printing variation but nothing exclusive or exotic to keep it in a collection. - The condition of the stamp matters. Inferior quality stamps are, in fact, nearly worthless. - Lack of knowledge. Very few stamp collectors possess knowledge of what to buy and what not to buy. Many collectors buy stamps out of whim and end up with bits of common stamps. - Perishability: Stamps, unlike coins, are perishable and subject to decay after a long time even though they are preserved properly. This is why a stamp collecting, in comparison, is a risky hobby in terms of returns.
Arguments aside, the stamp collecting is, in fact, a fulfilling hobby if it is taken as a hobby. Stamp collecting as an investment is not that profit yielding for the amateurs and non-professionals. It is better not to run after the future and enjoy collecting in the present, which, in the end, is more valuable!
