Gold Tanka of Delhi Sultan Nasir Al-Din Khusru

Nasir Al-Din Khusru was a Hindu and his Hindu name is still a mystery. The name Nasir Al-Din Khusru was given to him by Qutb Al-Din Mubarak Shah; a ruler of Delhi Sultanate from Khalji Dynasty. Nasir Al-Din Khusru Shah tried to gain the favour of Qutb Al-Din Mubarak, but the real plan of Nasir Al-Din Khusru was to kill the Sultan and to sit on the throne of Delhi Sultanate. Unaware of the real plans of Khusru, Mubarak got impressed by his work and raised him to a higher position.

This gold tanka which weighs around 10.95g was issued by Nasir Al-Din Khusru during his rule in Delhi Sultanate. He issued this coin from the mint Hadrat Delhi. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Al Sultan Al Azam Al Dunya Wa’l Din Khusru Shah Al-Sultan’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Al Wathiq Bi Nasir Al Rahman Wali Amir Al Muminin’. This gold mohur was sold for INR 1,85,000 in an auction of Oswal held in Ahmedabad on 8th February 2020.
