The United States of America had issued this Commemorative 1 Dollar with the theme of Native Americans in the year 2014. This commemorative coin was issued by the United States of America to commemorate the Native American Success of Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Lewis and Clark were the first Americans to cross the western portion of the United States. These two men Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark had begun their journey from Pittsburgh made their way westward and passed through Continental Divide of America to reach Pacific Coast. Their expedition began in the year 1804; when President Thomas Jefferson tasked Meriwether Lewis with exploring lands west of the Mississippi River that comprised the Louisiana Purchase. This expedition of Lewis and Clark is considered one of the major chapters in the history of American exploration.

Lewis and Clark Expedition are also known as Corps of Discovery Expedition. The Corps of Discovery was a selected group of US Army volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend Second Lieutenant William Clark.

The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of Sacagawea; this design was first produced in 2000. The reverse side of this coin depicts Native American man offering a pipe while his wife offers provisions of fish, corn, roots, and gourds. The background of the coin is stylized with William Clark's compass highlighting "NW," the area in which the expedition occurred.
