Bagalkot is a city situated in the Indian State of Karnataka; It is a prominent town in North Karnataka. Bagalkot is divided into Navanagar or new Bagalkot, and old Bagalkot. Bagalkot got its historical importance due to the Chalukya Empire. The Bagalkot had always been under the successive domain of the empire like Vijaynagar, Peshwa, Kingdom of Mysore, Maratha rulers and finally under the rule of British Empire 1818.This silver rupee which weighs around 11.06g was issued from the mint Balkot from the Maratha Confederacy. This silver rupee was issued in the name and title of Mughal Emperor Alamgir II. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of Alamgir II. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with the mint name and date 1819.
