France's 500 Francs ‘‘Blue and Pink'' Banknote

The French franc is one of Europe's oldest currencies. During the French Revolution the franc was established as the national currency by the French Revolutionary Convention in 1795 as a decimal unit. In 1800, the Bank of France began issuing notes, first in denominations of 500 and 1000 francs.This banknote of 500 Blue and Pink Francs of the Bank of France was put into circulation 12th March 1927. The note is a work of Barre, Dupuis, Duval and Cabasson and engraved by Brre, Robert, DuJardin and Pannemaker. The note has beautiful colour combination of blue on pink and has date, denomination and signatures printed in black.
Obverse of the note depicts to lovers a seated woman holding the tables of the law on both sides at the bottom. A pink caduceus is in the center of the ticket above the date surrounded by two pink medallions representing Hercules and Mercury. Denomination is at the top and two medallions with article 139 of the Penal Code are in a large blue oval circle.
The reverse shows Hercules and Ceres holding a caduceus and a stick with the face of Ceres, crowned from the front and surrounded by two half-stretched cupids leaning on their shoulders. The note was demonetized in the year 1940.
