Weir Farm National Historic Site Quarter Dollar

The United States of America had issued this commemorative quarter dollar with the theme of the Weir Farm National Historic Site.

Weir Farm National Historic Site is located in Ridgefield and Wilton, Connecticut. This national park commemorates and honours the life and work of American painter J. Alden Weir. J. Alden Weir is very famous for the type of art known for its impression. Weir and other artists found inspiration from the landscape around the farm.

The Weir Farm National Historic Site in Connecticut is spread around the 68-acre landscape and consists of around 15 historical structures, including houses, barns, studios, and outbuildings. This landscape also includes bedrock outcrops, historic gardens, stone terraces, specimen trees, orchards, fields, miles of stone laid walls, a pond, and hundreds of historic painting sites–all expertly preserved.

The obverse of this coin depicts the portrait of the first president of the United States of America George Washington, facing towards left. The inscription ‘LIBERTY’ and ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’ is written on the left and right side of the portrait and the inscription ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ and ‘QUARTER DOLLAR’ is written on the top and bottom side of the coin. The reverse (tails) design portrays an artist, wearing a painter’s smock, painting outside Julian Alden Weir’s studio at Weir Farm.
