Rat on the Slovenia stamp

A beautiful stamp was issued by the Slovenia post to celebrate the Year of the Rat that started on Jan 25th. This stamp illustrates a mouse looking towards the sky. This depiction is inspired by the popular myth of the creation of rat sinking its teeth in cosmic chaos causing separation of yin and yang. According to myth this action also results in the creation of heaven, earth, and fellow human were created with every aspect of creation.This issue was designed by Teja Milavec. It is also interesting to note that both mouse and rat denote the same animals in the Chinese linguistic context. The Chinese Zodiac cycle is the cycle of 12 years each represents a particular animal. First comes the Rat then come an Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. The rat is said to the most courageous of all the zodiac animals.
