The one-cent was issued by the United States of America with the theme of Lincoln Presidency in Washington in the year 2009.In the year 2009, the United States of America had issued four different pennies that represent the life of U.S president Abraham Lincoln. These four pennies were issued to commemorate the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth and the centennial of the first year of the Lincoln cent. The reverse side of these pennies represents the four major aspects of Lincoln’s life.
The obverse side of this one cent depicts the bust of Abraham Lincoln facing towards the right. The reverse side of this coin represents the United States Capitol building’s dome still under construction. The structure of the building is the same as it was during Lincoln’s term in office. The dome continued to rise as the Civil War raged and the Union struggled to remain united.
