Mongolian Constitution Day
2020-01-13 Mon
The Constitution of Mongolia was adopted on January 13, 1992, put into force on February 12, and amended in 1999, 2001 and 2019.The new constitution established a representative democracy in Mongolia, guaranteeing freedom of religion, rights, travel, expression, unalienable rights, government setup, election cycle, and other matters. It was written after the Mongolian Revolution of 1990 and dissolved the People's Republic of Mongolia. It consists of a preamble followed by six chapters divided into 70 articles.
A new constitution was established in Mongolia in 1992, removing the “People’s Republic” from the country’s name. That action has taken away some of the importance of the holiday for the country and Mongolians. Regardless, this day may be celebrated by some as a remembrance of the days that Mongolia lived under the shadow of the Soviet Union.
The stamp shown above was issued to celebrate the 25 years of the adoption of the first constitution of Mongolia which happened in the year 1924. The stamp depicts the embroidery of key features of the constitution. The stamp is inscribed with the name of the country and the denomination of 60 Mongolian mongo at the bottom.
