2020-01-07 Tue

Rwanda, officially the Republic of Rwanda, is a country in Central Africa and one of the smallest countries on the African mainland. Located a few degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Rwanda's developing economy is based mostly on subsistence agriculture. Coffee and tea are the major cash crops for export. Tourism is a fast-growing sector and is now the country's leading foreign exchange earner. The economy is managed by the central National Bank of Rwanda and the currency is the Rwandan franc. It is subdivided into 100 centimes.

Today we are looking at a 1000 Francs banknote issued in 1988. The obverse of this note depicts Watusi warriors to right and the Coat of Arms in left bottom corner. The reverse depicts the Eastern Gorillas to left with Canoers on Lake Kivu in centre background. This multi-coloured note has Grey Crowned Crane as its watermark.
