Tulsi Puja, a Hindu festival is celebrated on December 25th every year by Hindus. Tulsi being of great medicinal value is widely used in temples for prayers and other auspicious occasions. According to Hindu beliefs, Tulsi plant is believed to bring prosperity for believers.Texts of Ayurveda describe the properties of Tulsi. It is light to digest and dries tissue secretions. It can penetrate deep tissues and has anti helminths properties. Leaves, flowers, seeds, and roots of Tulsi are used in Ayurvedic preparations. You might have heard all these things from your Grandma… Bang on! She was always right.
Tulsi is worshiped by Hindus and is an important symbol of the Hindu religion. It is a very common sight to find Tulsi Vrindavan (a special structure where Tulsi is grown) in houses of Hindus. Is this because of its medicinal qualities or the Hindu God Vishnu? This festival was started by Asaram Bapu. Tulsi leaves are distributed among devotees as Prasada and Tulsi Plant is offered water as part of celebrations.
India Post issued a stamp on Tulsi Plant which has the denomination of INR 2.
