Alabama Centennial Half Dollar

The United States of America had issued this commemorative half dollar with the theme state of Alabama in the year 1921. The commemorative half dollar was issued by the United States of America to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the admission of the State of Alabama into the Union. This coin was the first ever created by the Mint to carry a living person’s portrait.The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of William Wyatt Bibb, the first governor of the Alabama and T.E. Kilby the governor at the time of the event facing towards left. The background of the coin depicts 22 stars; these 22 stars indicate that Alabama was the 22nd state admitted to the Union. The reverse of the coin depicts an eagle perched on a shield, which is based on the Alabama State Seal.
