The United States of America had issued this commemorative half dollar with in the year 1923 with the theme of Monroe Doctrine. This half dollar was issued by the United States of America to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Monroe Doctrine.The Monroe Doctrine is the best known United States policy opposing European colonialism in the Americas beginning in 1823. The obverse of this half dollar depicts the bust of presidents James Monroe and John Quincy Adams with the names Monroe and Adams underneath. The reverse of this coin depicts Western Hemisphere portrayed by two female figures.
