Gold Triangle crown went for INR 2, 00,000

Todywalla auction commenced a sale last Friday 15th November in Pune Coinex 2019. The lot consists of some of the rare specimens from the Indian coinage. There were many foreign coins and tokens were also offered in this sale. One the highlight of this auction was the set of gold Triangle Crown of the Isle of Man.

These coins are commemorative issues of Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaoh’s Exhibition. The first gold coin face value is one crown with weight 31.3g, the obverse of this coin depicts Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in a circle surrounded by hieroglyphics with the legend ‘ Elizabeth II ISLE OF MAN 2008’ with “ANKH AMUN” at the bottom. The reverse of this coin depicts Tutankhamen’s death mask surrounded by hieroglyphics with lettering one Crown.

The second image in the above image illustrates the half-crown of weight 15.65g. The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of Elizabeth II towards right within the circle surround by hieroglyphics with legend ‘TUT’ at the top ‘Elizabeth II ISLE OF MAN 2009’ within the circle and ‘ANKH AMUN’ at the bottom. The reverse of the depicts the sarcophagus of Tutankhamun (mummy case or coffin) with hieroglyphic on both sides with a face ‘Half crown’ illustrated on the left corner.

The last coin is of face value 1/5 crown of weight 6.31g, the obverse of this coin depicts the bust of Elizabeth II towards right within the circle surround by hieroglyphics with legend ‘TUT’ at the top ‘Elizabeth II ISLE OF MAN 2009’ within the circle and ‘ANKH AMUN’ at the bottom. The reverse of this coin depicts the Egyptian royalty.

The set of three proof coins fetch INR 2, 00,000 in the auction. This set is in the mint state and proclaimed very rare by the auction house.
