Bhakti Swami Prabhupada Swami was Indian monk and guru who founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) died today on 14th November 1977. He was remembered as India’s Cultural Ambassador to the world.,br>Born as Abhaya Charan De on September 1, 1896, at Calcutta, he was educated at the Scottish Church College in Calcutta. He graduated in 1920 with majors in English, philosophy, and economics. He belonged to the Bengali Kayastha family. Since he was born on the day of Nandotsava he was also called Natural. His contributions to the upliftment of society and betterment of mankind have been widely appreciated.
He dedicated his life to helping people all over the world to understand the message of Indian culture and philosophy. He was also an ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi’s Civil Disobedience. To honor him India Postal Department has issued a 500 Paise commemorative postage stamp in 1997.
