The United States of America had issued this commemorative gold five-dollar with the theme of the Olympic Winter Games in the year 2002. This commemorative coin was issued to honour the athletes who participate in the Olympic Games.

Every four years athletic all over the world come together to participate in an Olympic to test their skills and compete with each other to win the medals for their country. In the year 2002, the Olympic Games were held in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The obverse of this coin depicts the Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games Crystal Emblem on top of the Games' secondary identity mark entitled: "Rhythm of the Land.". The reverse of this coin depicts the Olympic flame in relief atop a cauldron.
