The United States of America had issued this commemorative half-dollar in the year 1946. This commemorative half dollar was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Iowa statehood.

Iowa is one of the states of the United States of America; it is situated in the Midwestern region of the United States of America. It makes the bordered by Mississippi river to the east and the Missouri River and Big Sioux River to the west. It also makes a border with six more states like Wisconsin to the northeast, Illinois to the east, Missouri to the south, Nebraska to the west, South Dakota to the northwest and Minnesota to the north. During the colonial period, this state was part of French Louisiana and Spanish Louisiana. The flag of this state is patterned after the flag of France.

The obverse of this coin depicts the first stone capitol building at Iowa City. The reverse of this coin depicts Iowa State Seal of an eagle with wings spread outward, holding a large ribbon with the words 'Our Liberties Our Rights We Prize and Will Maintain.'
