Cuba on World Postal Heritage Series

2019-10-12 Sat

The United Nations Postal Administration will highlight Cuba on six stamps and three booklets that will be issued Oct. 24 in its World Heritage series.

This stamp series features sites that have been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. UNPA’s Cuba World Heritage set includes two stamps and one booklet for each UNPA post office located at U.N. headquarters in New York City (50¢, $1.15); the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland (1 franc, 1.50fr); and the Vienna International Center in Vienna, Austria (€0.90, €1.80).

The booklets are prestige booklets that include text and illustrations in addition to stamps.

Sergio Baradat of the United Nations designed the stamps, using Alamay stock photographs of the sites.

Each design will show the photo in an oval surrounded by a decorative frame with gold foil accents.

The stamps are in panes of 20. Each stamp measures 50 millimeters by 35mm and is perforated gauge 14.5 by 14.25.

The quantities printed of the prestige booklets are 6,500 of the UNPA/New York booklet; 7,000 of the Geneva booklet; and 10,000 of the Vienna booklet.

The UNPA introduced its World Heritage series on Nov. 19, 1997, with stamps marking the 25th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. The designs feature China’s terra-cotta warriors.
