Niels Henrik David Bohr, a Danish physicist and Nobel Prize laureate was born on 7th October, 1885. He is regarded as one of the foremost physicists of the 20th century. He made foundational contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum theory, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922.Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Christian Bohr, a professor of physiology at the University of Copenhagen, and Ellen Adler Bohr, who came from a wealthy Danish Jewish family.
In 1903, Bohr enrolled as an undergraduate at Copenhagen University. His major was physics, which he studied under Professor Christian Christiansen, the university's only professor of physics at that time. He also studied astronomy, mathematics and philosophy under Professor Harald Hoffding, a friend of his father.
