Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Quarter Dollar

The Cumberland Gap National Historical Park is considered as the first gateway to the west, into the wilderness of Kentucky. It is located at the border between Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia centered on the Cumberland Gap, a natural break in the Appalachian Mountains. Modern-day explorers and travelers stand in awe at this great break in the Appalachian Mountain chain, carved by wind and water.

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park is stretch around the 26 miles along with the Cumberland Mountain. The National beauty of this mountain is lush with the vegetation, which supports diverse animal life including white-tailed deer, black bear, and wild turkey.

The United States of America had issued this commemorative Quarter Dollar with the theme of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in the year 2016. The obverse of this coin depicts the portrait of George Washington facing towards left with the motto ‘LIBERTY’ and ‘IN THE GOD WE TRUST’ written on the left and side of the coin. The inscription ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ is written on the top side of the coin and the inscription ‘QUARTER DOLLAR’ is written at the bottom. The reverse side of the coin depicts the frontiersman gazing across the mountains to the West. Many pioneers used Cumberland Gap on their journey into the western frontiers of Kentucky and Tennessee. Inscriptions are ‘FIRST DOORWAY TO THE WEST’ is written on the left side of the coin. The inscription ‘CUMBERLAND GAP’ is written on the top and the inscription’ KENTUCKY’, ‘2016’ and ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’ is written at the bottom.
