Tripura is a state situated in the north-eastern part of India. During the medieval period it was one of the largest historical kingdoms of Twipra people in the north-eastern India. The Twipra are those people who are the original inhabitants of the Twipra Kingdom in North-East India and Bangladesh. The Tripuri people from the Manikya dynasty had ruled Tripuri Kingdom for more than 2000 years until this kingdom joined the Indian Union in 1949 CE.

Before merging with the Indian Union Princely State Tripura was an Independent Kingdom under Tripuri Dynasty. The traces of Tripura can also be found in the Indian epic book like Mahabharata. During the period of Mahabharata the kingdom of Tripura was having socio and cultural relation with Aryans and from the stories like Koch- Devayani, Hirimba and others indicates this relation.

This silver tanka was issued by Rajandhara Manikya, the ruler of Tripura Kingdom during the Saka Era 1508. He issued this coin on the name of her wife Satyawati Mahadevi. The weight of this coin is around 10.36g. The obverse of this coin depicts standing lion facing towards left and a bead below Lion’s tail. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Sri Sri Yuta Rajadhara Manikya Deva Sri Satyvati Maha Devyau.
