The day of 30th September is one of the most important holidays in Mexico. The day marks the Birth Anniversary of Jose Maria Morelos. Born on 30th September 1765, Jose Maria Morelos or Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon was a revolutionary priest who assumed leadership of the Mexican independence movement after Miguel Hidalgo’s 1810 rebellion and subsequent execution. Morelos and Ignacio Lopez Rayon are credited with organizing the war of independence. Under Morelos, the Congress of Anahuac was installed on September 13, 1813, and on November 6 of the same year, Congress declared the country's independence. He was captured by the Spanish royalist military, tried by the Inquisition, defrocked as a cleric, and executed by civil authorities for treason in 1815. Morelos is a national hero in Mexico and is considered a very successful military leader despite the fact that he never took a military career and was instead a priest. On 29th September 2015, Mexico Post issued a 7 Peso Stamp to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Morelos.
