Awadh Gold Mohur Sold For INR 75,000 at Todywalla Auction

This gold mohur issued by Saadat Ali from the Princely States minted in Muhammadabad Banaras during the 26 years of his reign is sold for INR 75,000 at Todywalla Auction which was held in Mumbai on 21st September 2019. Awadh was a Princely State during the British rule in India.The Nawabs of this state traced their origin to ‘Muhammad Amin’, a Persian adventurer who served the Mughal Emperor, 'Muhammad Shah’. Muhammad Amin was appointed as the Subahdar of Awadh in 1720 AD. In the later period, Awadh declared its independence due to the decline of the Mughal Empire. Saadat Ali Khan was the son on Asaf-ud-Daula, he sat on the throne of Awadh during 1798 CE and ruled in till 1814 CE.
The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of the king with the frozen year 1223. The revere of this coin is inscribed with the mint name and regnal year 26.
