Phnom Penh, its capital, is home to the art deco Central Market, glittering Royal Palace and the National Museum's historical and archaeological exhibits. In the country's northwest are the ruins of Angkor Wat, a massive stone temple complex built during the Khmer Empire. The official currency of Cambodia is the riel. Today we are discussing a 5000 Riels banknote issued in the year 1973. The note specifications are as follows:
The obverse has the portrait of Poet Krom Ngoy (Ouk Ou) to right, while the reverse features the National Bank of Cambodia building in Phnom Penh (destroyed by Khmer Rouge in 1975). This red coloured note has the portrait of Krom Ngoy as its watermark.
