The United States of America had issued this one dollar commemorative coin to commemorate the Bicentennial of the United States Congress. The United States had issued this congressional coin in the year 1989.The United States Bicentennial was a series of celebration which was observed in the mid of 1970s. This event had paid tribute to the historical event leading to the creation of the United States of America as an independent republic. It was a central event in the memory of the American Revolution.
The obverse of this coin depicts the portrait of Statue of Freedom which towers at the peak of the Capitol Dome. The reverse of this coin depicts Mace of the House of Representatives, which resides in the House Chamber whenever the House is in session, and an eagle astride a world globe.
