Bulgaria is a Balkan nation with diverse terrain encompassing of Black Sea coastline, a mountainous interior and rivers, including the Danube. The Bulgarian Lev is the currency of Bulgaria. It is divided in 100 stotinki “Lev” comes from archaic Bulgarian the word "lev" which means "lion" and the “stotinka” comes from the word "sto" which means a hundred.
Today we are looking at a 5 Leva banknote issued in 1951. The obverse has the official Coat of arms of Bulgaria depicting a rampant lion in centre. The reverse has hands holding hammer and sickle with Sun's rays in the background.
