Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia, is a sovereign state situated in the northwest of South America, with some of its territories in North America as well. The peso has been the currency of Colombia since 1810. In 1915, a new paper currency was introduced, the Peso Oro. Colombia's banknotes continued to be issued denominated in Peso Oro until 1993, when the word Oro was dropped.
Today we are discussing a 5 peso Oro banknote issued in 1981. The obverse depicts the portrait of Jose Maria Cordoba to right and the Condor with its wings out stretched to left. The reverse depicts Liberty the Cartagena fortress.
