2016-04-12 Tue

Hindi is featured on a stamp issued by Belgium post. In 2012, Belgium issued a set of five stamps based on the theme of calligraphy.

The stamps depict five distinct scripts representing oldest civilizations of the world. The scripts featured on the stamps are Latin, Arabic, Chinese, Greek, and Hindi.

The script that represents India is Devnagari: commonly used for writing Hindi and Marathi. Developed from the ancient script Brahmi, Devanagari is a widely used writing system in India.

The stamp featuring the Indian script is designed by Dharmesh Jadeja. It shows bright red words “Ek dusre ko likhen” (Write to each other) in Hindi against a plain yellow background. The stamp comes with a tab which has “Calligraphy Hindi” written on it in French and Dutch languages along with the name of the designer.
