Datia was a Princely State during the British rule in India. Datia is located on the extreme North-West of Bundelkhand, near Gwalior and it is surrounded by other Princely States of Central India. Except on the east where it is bordered upon the United Provinces.
Datia was founded in the year 1735 CE by Bhagwan Das, son of Narsingh Dev of the Orchha Royal house. Govind Singh ruled the Datia state from 1907 to 1948 AD. During the reign, he issued various gold and silver coins.
